About Us
Leah Kolt is a writer who lucked into a good-enough day job to be able to live on California's glorious Central Coast.
Her love of food had its genesis in her childhood in the deep South. Growing up a scant 100 miles north of New Orleans meant banana fritters and cafe au lait for breakfast, asparagus casserole and fried chicken for lunch, and Creole gumbo full of crab and shrimp for dinner.
Church potluck suppers honed her palate, developing her taste for delicacies such as old-fashioned pound cake, strawberry shortcake, and crisp little teacake cookies.
A move to San Luis Obispo County in 2003 dropped her into the palms of the wine gods. With so much wine and so little time, she spends every possible moment visiting SLO County's 200-plus wineries, attending wine events, and trying out new wines to determine what goes well with her favorite recipes.

Mike Stepanovich of Bakersfield, Calif., a wine journalist, educator and judge, has been writing his wine column, "Life is a Cabernet," since 1985, and judging wines since 1987.
As an avid wine collector, he also teaches wine history and wine appreciation classes for California State University, Northridge and California State University, Bakersfield.
He has judged at such renowned competitions as the Indianapolis International Wine Competition, Florida International Wine Competition, Pacific Rim International Wine Competition, and the Riverside International Wine Competition.
He is managing director of the Bakersfield Wine Society and serves on the committee for CSU Bakersfield's annual scholarship fundraiser, "Party in the Park," one of the largest wine events in Central California.
